Atlanta, May 29, 2009 — Peachtree Equity Partners announces the establishment and first closing of Peachtree II, L.P., formed to make junior capital investments in small businesses located primarily in the Southeast.
Peachtree II also announces the addition of Wendell Reilly as General Partner.
Peachtree II was established to capitalize on attractive opportunities in the mezzanine debt market. The fund will invest $3mm-$10mm per deal in owner-operator companies with at least $2mm of EBITDA. Preferred industries include manufacturing, business services and financial services. Having completed an initial closing at $60mm, Peachtree expects to raise additional investor capital in 2009 and have a final close at $75mm-$100mm.
Peachtree is managed by David Christopher, Wendell Reilly and Matt Sullivan. The Peachtree team founded the private equity business of Wachovia bank in 1997. While there, they were responsible for the bank's mezzanine investing, direct private equity investing plus commitments to third party, independent funds. In 2002 the team formed Peachtree Equity Partners as an independent private equity fund to provide growth equity to profitable, Southeast businesses managed by owner-operators.
"We believe it is a great time to invest mezzanine capital in middle market companies," said Matt Sullivan "Senior lenders have reduced availability of capital to small businesses and Peachtree II is positioned to fill that market need." Peachtree II is licensed as a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) by the Small Business Administration.
Prior to Peachtree II, Wendell Reilly founded Grapevine Communications, a venture-backed group of network-affiliated television stations. Wendell currently serves as Managing Partner of Grapevine Partners, a private equity firm focused on the media industry. Wendell serves on the Board of Brown and Brown, Inc. and Lamar Advertising Company as well as the Board of Trustees of Emory University.
